Chief Roger Parent was sworn in as Police Chief April 15, 2008.  Prior to coming to Cedar Springs he served 34 years with the Kent County Sheriff’s Department.   He served in a number of positions while employed with Kent County.  Among them were:  working on the road  patrol as a deputy and later as a deputy-paramedic, a member of the tactical response team, community police officer and a traffic safety unit supervisor.  He also served as the Public Information Officer handling requests from the news media.  As a command officer (lieutenant) he was assigned to the Support Services Divison and later served as a Road Patrol Commander for the central and northern sections of Kent County.

Growing up in Alpine Township and attending Sparta High School, Roger feels at home in northern Kent County.  Having an early interest in law enforcement, he enrolled in the Criminal Justice program  at Grand Rapids Community College and completed his police  academy through Macomb Community College and his paramedic program through Davenport College in Grand Rapids.  Later in his career, he attended Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command.

Roger and his wife, Linda, have been married for over 26 years and have two  children and two grandchildren. His hobbies include hunting, golfing and boating.
