POLICE DEPARTMENT

The City of Cedar Springs maintains its own police department which provides services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The department is composed of the chief, one sergeant, and 5 full time police officers, 3 part-time police officers, and a Reserve Unit consisting of 6 non-certified officers and a Police Chaplin.  Support staff consists of a part time police clerk and one school crossing guard.

Officers with the Cedar Springs Police Department are sworn to enforce city ordinances, state law, and federal law.  Patrol officers perform traffic enforcement, accident investigations, ordinance enforcement, criminal and civil investigations, and general patrol activity.  They assist with community related programs, conduct vacation house checks, and assist citizens who are locked out of their vehicle.

The police department does quarterly sex offender registrations, issues handgun permits, conducts background checks for various citizen needs and offers Preliminary Breath Tests (PBT) for those requiring this alcohol test as part of their probation.  A fee is required for many of these services.
