Upcoming Elections in 2012
2012 will be a busy year for elections starting with the February 28th Presidential Primary, followed by a May GRCC School Election, an August 7th Primary Election and the November 6th General Election in which a new president will be elected.
You must be registered to vote! The last day to register to vote in the February election is January 30th. February’s election is a closed primary meaning the voter must select one of THREE ballot type available. Voters may select a Republican, Democratic or No Ballot Preference ballot. The third option of no preference is offered for those voters who only wish to vote on the Cedar Springs School’s millage question. The millage question is printed on both the Republican and Democratic ballots. If voters do not select a ballot type, NO ballot will be issued. Also new on voter applications to vote this year is the question “Are you a United States Citizen?” A “No” response to this question will result in no ballot being issued to the applicant.
Absentee ballots are available from the City Clerk. To receive an absentee ballot you must first complete an application. You may recieve an application from the City Clerk or you may print the form by clicking here Absentee Application. . You may either mail the application or return it to City Hall.
City Council Nominating Petitions Available
Nominating petitions are available for one four-year seat on the Cedar Springs City Council in the office of the City Clerk. Qualifying candidates must be 18 years of age, a City resident and may not be in default to the City, County or School District.
Petitions must be filed with the City Clerk by 4:00 p.m. May 15, 2012 and must bear the signatures of not less than 25; but no more than 50 registered voters of the City of Cedar Springs.
Should fouror more candidates file for the two open seats, a run-off would be held on the August 7 2012 Primary Election with the top two candidates vying for the the position on the November 6th General Election Ballot.
Candidate packets are available from the City Clerk from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at City Hall, located at 66 S. Main St.
