Economic Development Opportunities

At any given time, the City of Cedar Springs has a number of opportunities for entrepreneurs to realize their dreams.  While other communities have been struggling in the poor economy, Cedar Springs has welcomed a number of new businesses, downtown vacancies have actually decreased and building permit issuance remains steady.  This phenomena is largely due to a 3-year facade grant improvement program which generated over $500,000 in private investment in the downtown corridor.   Click HERE to download before and after photos of downtown Cedar Springs.

95 N. Main ~ The City is currently soliciting Request for Proposals (RFPs) for the sale of 95 N. Main Street.  The City purchased this property from the Kent County Treasurer in the summer of 2009 by exercising it’s first-right-of-refusal when the property reverted back to Kent County in tax foreclosure.  The City is in the process of amending the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (BRA) plan in order to allow a developer to take advantage of all available tax incentives.   The City, along with the Village of Sand Lake and the townships of Algoma and Nelson, is the recipient of a $200,000 EPA grant that will be used to perform environmental analysis on this property (and numerous others) thereby providing another incentive to developers.  This property is zoned B-2 Central Business District.  Click HERE to download a PDF version of the RFP.

Main ~ Property ID# 41-03-31-101-006.  This piece of property was formerly a sales lot for modular homes.  The property is mostly asphalt with two buildings on the site.  Main Street in front of this property underwent a complete restoration in the summer of 2009 including the water and sewer lines.  The property is zoned B-1 (neighborhood business).  Interested developers should call Joel Ruiter at 616-260-9053 or Barry Ruiter at 616-260-9053.  Click HERE for additional details on 400 S.
